'Twin Peaks' Is Still An Incredible Mystery TV Series, 36 Years Later

While over three decades have passed since the pilot episode aired, Twin Peaksis still fantastic, and it’s amazing to reflect on its cultural legacy. David Lynch’s series premiered in April 1990 on ABC and told an epic story about FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) investigating the murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). While Lynch made several incredible movies, from Blue Velvet to Lost Highway, and co-created the 1993 HBO anthology Hotel Room, the 1990s TV show that he co-created with Mark Frost deserves equal praise. Not every filmmaker can also create a surreal and fascinating TV world that endures for decades, but that’s exactly what happened here.
