The film, which opens Nov. 25, centers on three longtime friends deciding to party one last time on Christmas Eve to mark the conclusion of their 14-year-old holiday tradition — started due to the death of the mother of Gordon-Leveitt’s character — since Rogen’s character is about to become a father and Mackie’s pro-athlete character is too famous.Comic chaos ensues when Rogen’s wife, played by Jillian Bell, decides to give her husband magic mushrooms and cocaine. That leads to him barfing in a church while wearing a Star of David sweater and then declaring to the congregation, “We did not kill Jesus!”
Later on at a party, Mindy Kaling praises Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” which provides the soundtrack for the trailer: “You can cry to it, you can run to it, you can party to it.”
“The Night Before” was directed by Jonathan Levine from his own script.

On February 10, 2014, it was announced that Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt would reunite in the film, following 50/50, which Jonathan Levine was set to direct from his own script. Good Universe and Point Grey Pictures were set to produce the film, which Sony’s Columbia Pictures would distribute. On May 13, Anthony Mackie joined the cast of the film.On August 7, Jillian Bell was added to the film to portray the role Betsy, the wife of Rogen’s character who gives the pals a cornucopia of drugs on Christmas Eve so they can have one last hurrah together. On August 8, Lizzy Caplan joined the film’s cast to play Diana, a love interest to Gordon-Levitt’s character.

The principal photography on the film began on August 11, 2014, in New York City. On August 14, filming was taking place around 112th street and Broadway in NYC. On August 22, Rogen was spotted during the filming scenes of outside a church in Manhattan. On January 5, 2015. filming was taken place in and around Rockefeller Center, where the crews were taking some shots of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.
