1977 was a difficult year for Fleetwood Mac. The band was on the verge of their biggest commercial success yet. Their next record was going to be the one to immortalize them in rock ‘n’ roll history. And yet, the process of making it was torturous and vindictive. For starters, two couples in the band were breaking up, the most infamous one being Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. These two didn’t hold back when writing songs about each other, but it seems Nicks might have gone a step too far when writing “Silver Springs,” as the band voted to keep it out of Rumours, their most successful album to this day.
