'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Wins Opening Weekend at Box Office

The box office reports for the week of May 1–3 have been made official (per Variety), revealing a new and fashionable winner to continue the spring season. That top earner is The Devil Wears Prada 2, directed by David Frankel and starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, hitting the big screen 20 years after the duo first strutted down the runway in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada. The sequel grossed $77 million at the domestic box office, nearly tripling the $27.5 million the original movie grossed domestically; it also garnered $233.6 million worldwide in its opening weekend. Its domestic opening is the fourth-highest total of the year, only trailing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($131 million), Michael ($97.5 million), and Project Hail Mary ($80 million).
