Selma Blair‘s intentions? Having fun with her hair.
The Cruel Intentions alum stepped out with a noticeably shorter ‘do during Variety‘s Power of Women event Sept. 23, with her hairstylist Sheridan Ward styling her blonde locks in a tousled look using Hair by Sam McKnight products.
Blair credited hairstylist Paul Norton for the cut and colorist Aura Friedman for its golden honey hue in a Sept. 24 Instagram post. She also gave a shoutout to Gwyneth Paltrow‘s GWYN fashion label for designing the white, two-piece ensemble she wore the star-studded gala, as well as “best tablemates” Jenna Dewan and Bryce Dallas Howard.
“Last night at @variety Power of Women, a room full of women with so much to say,” the 54-year-old wrote in the caption. “I was glad to listen.”
Nodding to Dewan’s ongoing run on Dancing With the Stars, which she competed on in 2022, Blair added in a note to the Step Up star, “Tuesdays have gotten considerably better.”
But even before her glitzy night out, Blair has been embracing shorter tresses since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018.
“I had cut my hair short because I couldn’t always raise my hand above my head [to style it],” she explained in a 2022 interview with Vogue. “I dyed it blonde to help hide my spots of alopecia.”
But that hasn’t stopped her from exploring her personal style through fashion, makeup and, of course, hair. In fact, the Legally Blonde actress said she’s “seen what beauty can do for an emotional spirit and sometimes that can be everything.”
“There’s many other facets to show yourself besides makeup but it can be an amazing tool of expression or confidence or armor—or, for me, character,” she continued. “Mood is no small thing.”
Now, she considers it a form of self-care.
“I’ve never thought of fashion, makeup—really, any of our ways of self-care and presenting ourselves—as frivolous,” she told InStyle in 2022, admitting that she had “stopped looking in the mirror” during a low point in her health journey. “My hair was short, I was bloated, I had alopecia on my lashes and my face. And it was all so much effort— I sometimes don’t see well—so I just stopped, and I didn’t think I missed it.”
