Michael Rapaport can dish it out, and we’ll assume he can take it.
The veteran actor, podcaster and comedian is known for his trash-talking ways. Sports. Politics. Culture. You name it, the “Beautiful Girls” alum has a take on it.
The sizzling hot variety.
And he happens to be both Jewish and pro-Israel, which means he endures more than just mean Tweets or sick-burn responses.
Even worse? So do the people around him.
Rapaport told OutKick’s Craig Carton what he has faced over the last two-plus years after getting vocal about his pro-Jewish beliefs. Rapaport has been a staunch defender of Israel and one of only a handful of celebrities to consistently speak out on behalf of Jewish hostages following Oct. 7.
His Oscar speech parody is the kind of subversive shtick “Saturday Night Live” once owned before switching to safe, predictable yuks.
The actor has been working steadily for decades. Major films. Indie features. TV. Lots of TV. His work on Netflix’s “Atypical” proved particularly strong. He played the father of an autistic teen struggling to repair his crumbling marriage while being a good dad.
Now, he’s finding gigs harder to land.
The “career stuff” hasn’t been easy, Rapaport told Carton. The problem is worse, he says, when it comes to his stand-up career.
“There’s been an issue. The show’s being boycotted. Sucks. It doesn’t make anybody comfortable. It doesn’t make the club comfortable. It doesn’t make the other comedians comfortable.”
Can you blame them? Remember, Rapaport’s crime is being Jewish and defending Israel’s right to strike back at its enemies.
Lock him up?
Comedy club staffers have told him he puts their lives in danger by simply showing up. Two Rapaport appearances have been canceled in recent years over said threats.
“…. There was a show in Chicago and they said, ‘We’re not just getting threats that the club staff is getting called and harassed on social media, that if you go to work, this is going to happen to you’…’We have to cancel this show because the police are saying they can’t promise they can be there on Thursday night.’”
That’s a problem on several levels. Why can’t an extra police officer or two be stationed at the club to keep everyone safe? Isn’t that their job?
Even worse?
Why do so few media organizations report on this sorry situation? But Rapaport isn’t backing down. In fact, the pressure could soon be worse.
Rapaport has teased a Mayoral run, putting him up against Mayor Zohran Mamdani for New York bragging rights.
