This first premiered at the 2026 Annecy Film Festival earlier this summer and next plays at Fantastic Fest in Austin. YouTuber Princess Maria stumbles into a surreal trap after a she finds a video of a girl running from a mysterious woman and is drawn to a eerie, mind bending mansion. Fantasy-horror animation inspired by the “awakening doll” story in the classic literary anthology “Taiping Guanji”. This is Taiwan’s first major rotoscoped 2D animated feature a “true visual proposition.” Fantastic Fest adds: “The slightly uncanny movements serve the story and themes to a T, carrying the film through a slow descent from mystery into gothic horror… [they’ve] created a singular, ambitious, visually rich object, with genuinely unsettling ideas about performance, ownership and the need to belong.
