Into the Woods is a 2014 film directed by Rob Marshall, based on the Stephen Sondheim musical, in turn, inspired by the famous traditional fairy tales like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Grimm’s Rapunzel and Jack and the Beanstalk
Set in an alternate world of Grimm’s fairy tales, the film intertwines the plots of some of the works of the Brothers Grimm and extends them to find out the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Cinderella, as well as many others.

When a baker and his wife realize that they can not have children, because cursed by a witch on a journey into the woods to find the objects needed to break the spell and start a family. The film is tied together by the original story of the baker and his wife, the witch who has cast a curse on them and their interaction with other fairy tale characters on the trip. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy music eventually becomes a meaningful story about responsibility, about the issues that arise from the desires and the legacy we leave to our children.
