Amelia Warner…

Amelia Warner (born 4 June 1982) is an English actress, singer, and songwriter. Previously appearing mainly in film and television, Warner is now a signed as an artist to Island Records and performs under the name Slow Moving Millie.Warner was born Amelia Catherine Bennett in Liverpool, the only child of actors Annette Ekblom and Alun Lewis. Her paternal uncle is actor Hywel Bennett. When her parents divorced, Warner, then four years old, and her mother moved to London. Warner studied at the Royal Masonic School for Girls and, at 16, the Fine Arts College, London. She studied the history of art at Goldsmiths’ College in London.

Amelia Warner is the only child of British actress Annette Ekblom. Relocating to London when she was 4 years old, she studied at the Royal Masonic School for Girls, and then (at 16) the College of Fine Arts. However, her schools did not approve of her taking so much time off for her acting work and so was forced to study for a while at a college in Belsize Park. She was “discovered” after she and her friends devised and acted out a play in Covent Garden where she was spotted by an agent and won a place at London Royal Court Theatre’s Youth program. Warner had a string of television roles in TV dramas such as “Casualty” (1986) before making it big with Lorna Doone (2000) (TV) and the film Quills (2000), which both came out in Christmas 2000.

When she initially bowed as a miniseries star in her native Britain, just after the dawn of the new millennium, striking raven-haired actress Amelia Warner suddenly appeared everywhere in the U.K. — from fashion spreads to magazine covers and talk programs and prompted many a journalist to tag her, perceptively, as “poised for stardom.” Then only 19, Warner indeed turned numerous heads with her skillful portrayal of the title character in the 2001 telefilm adaptation of R.D. Blackmore’s Lorna Doone a huge BBC television event that Christmas.

In subsequent years, Warner often revealed a preference for low-key, subtly played, intelligent psychological dramas and quiet character studies, including the underpraised Winter Passing (2004), Love’s Brother (2004), and Alpha Male (2005). For better or worse, Warner’s crossover to more internationally oriented work embodied a commercialization; her first two major Hollywood assignments were supporting roles in the superhero fantasy Aeon Flux (2005) and the elephantine fantasy adventure The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising (2007).

Amelia began her music career in July 2009 when she wrote and performed the song “Beasts” under the name Slow Moving Millie for a Virgin Media television commercial. The track was then released on 17 August 2009. Her second single, “Rewind City” was also used for another advertisement, for Orange UK, and was directed by Ringan Ledwidge. In October 2011, Warner signed a record deal with Island Records. Her cover version of The Smiths’ 1984 B-Side “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” was released on 11 November 2011 was selected as the soundtrack to the John Lewis 2011 Christmas advertisement.
