Adam Carolla Tried to Warn Us About Nithya Raman

Hollywood was in deep trouble before the first midterm vote got tallied Tuesday.

Now, it’s in even worse shape.

Why? Nithya Raman will be Los Angeles’ next mayor.

She defeated the inept incumbent, Karen Bass, the leader who was in Ghana when her city began to burn nearly two years ago.

It’s great that L.A. dwellers voted Bass out of office. But they chose someone even further to the Left in the process.

Somewhere, Spencer Pratt is shaking his head in disbelief.

How do we know Raman will be a disaster? She’s been on the City Council for several years already, and we haven’t seen much improvement in the City of Angels.

Strike one.

She’s a loud and proud Democratic Socialist, a far-left radical movement tied to anti-capitalist policies.

Strike two.

But comedian/podcaster Adam Carolla shared how she views the world two years ago. That commentary deserves a fresh look given the electoral news.

Call it strike three.

Los Angeles has struggled with crime of late. That’s not news. A specific component of that crime wave: Thieves stealing catalytic converters from cars across the city.

The thievery in question can be speedy if the crook has the right tools.

It takes less than two minutes for a thief with a reciprocating saw to crawl under your vehicle and make the two or three cuts required to steal your catalytic converter. Less than two minutes time to take a part they will salvage for $200 and you’ll need to replace at a cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000.

Ugh.

Now, a politician might find ways to battle back against these thieves. Longer prison sentences. Stiffer fines. More police patrols.

Not Raman. She channeled her rage against the car manufacturers, not the crooks. And Carolla skewered the future Mayor for taking that approach.

“She’s from Harvard and MIT,” Carolla noted during a 2024 discussion on the issue, sparked by the death of an actor who startled thieves attempting to steal his car’s catalytic converter. “This is what they teach you at school.”

Carolla’s team played a snippet of Raman addressing the crime issue in question.

“One of the things that really infuriate me … is that we have a company like Toyota who makes the Prius and has a device on their cars which is super easy to remove. It’s basically the value of a MacBook,” Raman said during a public meeting. “It’s incredibly easy to access in your car.”

That device, Carolla noted, is “welded into the center of the car and tucked up into the transmission tunnel.”

What if that MacBook was in a car’s trunk or, even better, lying on the seat inside the car? Would Raman be furious about its theft? Why not, he asked. Isn’t it Apple’s fault for making something valuable?

“Would that be on Toyota for not putting cages around the cars?” Carolla asked hypothetically. “She’s angry at Toyota for making something so easy to steal.”

“This dips*** is making decisions about how we should live in Los Angeles. That’s bad,” he said of the then-City Councilwoman. “She sounds like a complete buffoon … like a nine-year-old giving a book report.”

“These idiots are in charge, and that’s why L.A. is becoming a dangerous piece of s***,” he added.

Now, that “idiot” will hold the keys to the city.
